Nearly 15 and a half years ago, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold carried out one of the most notorious school shootings in history at Columbine High School. The 1999 massacre, which killed 12 students and one teacher, was the deadliest act of violence at a school until the Virginia Tech shootings in 2007.
Susan Klebold, mother of Columbine shooter Dylan, has decided to come forward with a memoir to share the "indescribable grief and shame" she has lived with since her son's role in the Colorado tragedy, Crown Publishers told The Associated Press on Tuesday. The publishing company said Klebold was moved to share her story because of violence in schools making major headlines in recent years, most notably with the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in 2012 and the Isla Vista, California, shootings around the University of Santa Barbara in 2014. The company also said that Klebold plans to donate any author profits from her memoir to mental health research and other charities.
